2D Class Week 01 Art Of Syd Mead

For this weeks assignment we had to take a look at Sid Mead's pictures. Than select one object or person, divide it into simple shapes and color it.

I chose this picture

























I started with a basic shape of the mannequin. Than cleaned up the line art.





















Than i selected body part by body part and colored them, starting at the mod tone and adding shaddos with highlights later. 





















Lastly i added a ground plane and cropped it accordingly.



3D Week 001 Assignment (UE4 Simple Box Level)

For our first assignment in 3D we had to create create a cube and bring it to Unreal 4.

First I brought in the mannequin to establish the scale.



















When you auto build a cube in Maya it' scale is 1x1x1. It is really tiny!
















Next I enlarged and beveled it. There are three edge looks instead of one.



















After smoothing it I imported it to Unreal 4 and started creating something. I decided to create a floating tree. First I placed all the blocks until i was satisfied with the silhouette of it.






















Once I was happy with its position, i put in basic colors.




















Here are the materials I used. They are very simple and matte because i wanted to achieve very clay-like look. I also experimented with the opacity in the grass.























Final touches were to make it a bit more complex, add some flowers and create an environment from it.  Using the same technique I added some clouds, played around with the environment, lights and fog to get this as the final picture.
